ASA CODE

Article 201 MEMBERSHIP. Upon proper application and qualification, membership in ASA (MASA) shall be available to state and metro associations, individuals, teams and organizations on a voluntary basis and who agree to be governed by the Code, rules and regulations of ASA (MASA).

MASA BYLAWS

Article 15.01    APPLICABILITY. The Michigan Amateur Softball Association (MASA), as a member of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA), adheres and abides by all rules and regulations of the ASA unless specifically covered in the official publications of the Michigan Amateur Softball Association.

TEAM REGISTRATIONS

Absolutely no registration of teams desiring to participate in state tournament play will be accepted after June 15 of the current year.

ROSTER DEADLINES

All tournament rosters are due in the respective District Commissioner’s office no later than June 15, of the current year. Individual districts may establish an earlier deadline. Managers are encouraged to contact their respective District Commissioner for the applicable deadline.

TOURNAMENT ROSTER DEADLINE.

For all MASA State Tournament play, rosters are due at the tournament site at noon on the Friday prior to the scheduled tournament date.

EXCEPTION: The tournament deadline for all MASA State Qualifiers will be NOON, on the Friday prior to the scheduled MASA tournament.

APPEALS AND VOLUNTARY MOVE-UP TEAMS

All Classification Appeals and Voluntary Move-Up Teams must apply to their respective District Commissioner no later than July 01, of the current  year. Voluntary Move-Up teams are limited to moving up a maximum of two classes.

MASA MANDATORY CLASSIFICATION RULE

Teams that are subject to the MASA Mandatory Classification Rule must properly submit any and all appeals prior to participating in tournament play.

POINTS OF EMPHASIS

A team must register with the state or metro association in which the greatest number of it’s players reside.

Teams must compete with the same roster in championship play as used during the regular season’s play. Exception, teams are allowed to pick up three players when advancing in championship play (Refer to the ASA Code, Article 503, Pick-Up Players, for the proper use of pick-up players).

Individual players may participate on one and only one team within a division in championship play (See the ASA Code, Article 506, DIVISION AND CLASSIFICATION OF CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY) throughout the season. Once a player participates in a division of championship play, signs in, that player is no longer eligible to participate with any other team within that same division of play, (MASA interprets participation as ‘signing the MASA Official Signature Form‘).

The roster will be frozen for any team that earns a berth for further participation in MASA Championship play.

MASA Qualifying tournament play is considered an extension of state elimination play and all rules and regulations of ASA and MASA are applicable.

ROSTER PROCEDURES

The Michigan Amateur Softball Association has adopted the use of the ASA Official Championship Roster for all MASA tournament play. The roster must be completed in its entirety as follows:

  1. ASA OFFICIAL WAIVER, RELEASE of LIABILITY and INDEMNIFICATION FORM. Each player should read the ASA Official Waiver and Release of Liability and Indemnification Form, located at the top of the roster form, prior to signing the roster.

    MASA legislation requires anyone participating in MASA tournament play to properly execute the MASA Player Waiver and Release Agreement for all adult play or the MASA Parental Waiver and Release Agreement for all Junior Olympic play.

    The forms have been incorporated into the same document on the ASA Official Championship Roster. In properly executing the roster, each player must:

    1. Sign the roster, next to your name as it appears on the roster.

    2. Initial the roster to the right of your signature indicating the acceptance of the waiver form. Both the player's signature and the player's initials are required on the roster in order to be eligible.

      NOTE: Player's signatures and the initials, accepting the waiver conditions, must be done prior to any participation at any level.

  3. TEAM IDENTIFICATION SECTION. The team identification portion of the roster deals with the following:

    1. Year of Play, (current year).

    2. Team Name as it appears on your registration form.

    3. City, the city in which your league is played.

    4. The proper Division of play (Men's, Women's, Girls', Coed, Fast Pitch, Slow Pitch or Modified Pitch).

    5. Classification (Major, A, B, C, D, E, F, or Division I I) of your team.

  5. THE ROSTER LIST. This section must be properly completed as follows:

    1. Print or Type each players name in column one (1).

    2. Each player must SIGN his name next to his printed or typed name.

    3. Each player must INITIAL the third (3) column indicating that the player has read and understands the ASA Official Waiver and Release of Liability and Indemnification Form.

    4. Each player must enter the DATE of the signature in column four (4).

    5. Each player must enter his legal address including Street, City, State and Zip Code and all information must match the drivers license or other acceptable identification.

    6. Each player must enter his or her Date of Birth.

      NOTE: Each player must enter his Date of Birth. Use column six (shaded), the remaining shaded areas pertain to the Junior Olympic program only.

    7. The shaded area, except for column six as indicated above, is intended for Junior Olympic play only. All Junior Olympic players must complete this section including:

      1. Date of Birth.
      2. Parent's or Guardian Signature.
      3. Date of Signature.
      4. Relationship to the rostered player.
  6. TEAM MANAGER'S AFFIDAVIT. This section must be properly completed to include:
    1. Manager's name ( Printed ),

    2. Manager's Signature

    3. Manager's Address including Street, City, State and Zip Code

    4. Both his home phone and business phone.

  8. COMMISSIONER'S STATEMENT. For tournament play Outside the jurisdiction of MASA, such as, ASA National Qualifying Tournaments outside the State of Michigan, the Great Lakes Regional Tournaments and ASA National Tournaments and ASA National Championships the roster must be signed by the MASA State Commissioner.

    For tournament play within the jurisdiction of MASA, such as, state qualifying tournament and all MASA State tournament play, the following signatures are required:
    1. Your District Commissioner or Commissioner - at - Large.

    2. Your League Director.

      NOTE: The League Director's signature must be placed on the ASA Official Championship Roster where it indicates Signature of Tournament Director ( If Applicable ), see the example below.

  9. Link to Team Manager's Affidavit Form

    All rosters must be completed in their entirety.

    ROSTER VERIFICATION

    In verifying the roster, the league director, district commissioner or district commissioner-at-large is verifying the following:

    1. Team Name as it appears on the registration print out.

    2. City in which the team plays.

    3. Division of Play.

    4. Classification of Team.

    5. Rostered Players.

    6. Manager's Signature.

    7. E-Mail address.

    ROSTER DISTRIBUTION

    Copies of the roster are to be distributed as follows:

    Original -- District Commissioner

    First Copy -- Tournament Site

    Second Copy -- Manager

    An Additional copy should be made and retained by the League Director.

    PICK-UP PLAYERS PROCEDURES

    If pick-up players are utilized, the pick-up player ( s ) must sign an ASA Official Pick-up Player Form which must be signed by the team's manager, the district commissioner or district commissioner-at-large and the player's parent or guardian ( if applicable ) and attached to the team's official roster before the team participates in the tournament ( Pick-up players are not allowed in any qualifying tournament play ).

    Please refer to the ASA Code under Article 503, Pick-Up Players, for details on the proper use of pick-up players.

    POINTS OF EMPHASIS

    1. The team from which the player was picked up must be clearly identified on the Pick-Up form.

    2. All Pick-Up Player Rules must be followed, see you ASA Rule Book for regulations on the use of pick-up players.

    PICK-UP PLAYER FORM DISTRIBUTION

    Original -  District Commissioner

    First Copy -  Tournament Site

    Second Copy -  Manager

    Pick-up Player Forms must be attached the respective roster and forwarded to the MASA State office with the MASA Official Tournament Report.

    An Additional copy should be made and retained by the League Director.

    MASA OFFICIAL SIGNATURE FORM

    The MASA Official Signature Form must be completed as follows:

    1. Must be completed in it's entirety including printed players names, player's signatures and the player's date of birth.

    2. Must be used for all levels of MASA tournament play including the following; pre-district, district, regional ( Fast Pitch ), qualifying tournaments and state championship play.

    3. The MASA Official Signature Form must be attached to the ASA Official Championship Roster and included in all tournament reports.
